Elmsbury Chicken and Vegetable Pie

Here I am, reviewing another pie. This time, it is Emsbury’s Chicken and Vegetable Pie. piesaregoodforyou tries out a friend of the beef variety. 912729_10151658887680695_1824900125_n

Cost: budget pies at $4 per 4-pack.

Pastry: tasty puff pastry lid (it is worth mentioning that this is proper puff pastry and not the usual ironed-on faux-puff pastry we find on other budget pies). The pastry-bulge is also rather old fashioned; a bit thicker than usual and crunchy. Very nice.

Meat: now, like many pie enthusiasts out there I find most chicken pies to be filled with an awful mush resembling cream of chicken soup. I was pleased to find distinguishable pieces of chicken in the creamy gravy (which maybe a hint of chives?), and colourful lumps which may have been vegetables. Tasty.912669_10151658887675695_2022434019_n

Overall Satisfaction: this pie came as a surprise after I have reviewed other poor efforts at the chicken pie creation. I found its creamy center enticing and rather filling, and did not resemble soup. Highly satisfied.

Grading: C+

Hi there, enjoyed your write ups. Recently I bought Scotts chicken and veg pies from Coles supermarket. These pies are made by Sargeants. My query is the actual contents of chicken in it. If you read the label it says water, wheat flour and chicken (18%)!! If you look at the pastry composition it would be higher. So what are we buying? Some tiny amount of chicken and more of other stuff? will appreciate your feedback. Thx

Chicken pies are usually pretty bad, regardless of what Brand they are. I am afraid that when it comes to advising customers on what brand of chicken pies they should buy, I fall short. Simply put, there are no decent store-bought chicken pies that I am aware of.
